On the first day of class, I asked all my students to write about themselves, including their families, their hobbies and what they want to do after graduation. Here are some of my favorite parts, with the original spelling, punctuation and grammar. (I’m using their English names because that’s what they’re called in class.)

Michael: “I want to know why America like wars so much. Maybe you don’t like wars, but we all know America attacks Iraq, Libya in recent years. Recently, American will attack Syria. Why? Can you tell me the reason in an American’s views?’’

Sophia: “You look like the 007, Rick. So cool!’’

Victor: “I love movies like “Forest Gump.’’ I love Will Smith most. He just like a black pearl, make the movie shine.’’

Kenneth: “Why do I learn English? … What’s the most important is that the world becomes `smaller and smaller.’ So we should pick up English, the most popular language. Maybe some of us won’t live on that, but we must keep our pace with the society.’’

Cindy: “My hometown is a beautiful place, no earthquake, no flood, no typhoon.’’

Ann: “My father is a silence man. He don’t like to speak too much and so do I. My mother have the opposite character. She can talk a lot with others even she don’t know their name.’’

Carol: “In the last holiday, I went to hospital many times and ate many kinds of medicine.’’

Allen: “I believe music can appease our pain.’’

Rose: “I always talk to myself.  work hard, but I also always feel there was blank in my mind. Sometimes, I felt self-abused, like I can’t do things good or I was a useless people. Hope you can give me some suggestions.’’

Mia: “I am interested in psychogy. It is so mysterious. From a small behavior or expression, people can read mental.’’

Nicole: “I say to myself, just work hard for your study because knowledge is power. Knowledge is wealth.’’

Agatha: “I like the traditional culture very much, especially Chinese traditional poem. I think they are very beautiful and mysterious. The poemer described a big world with few words. it’s amazing!”

Jessica: “Words can make people become quiet and gives people more power to move on.’’

May: “I love freedom, so I don’t want to be in the control of others. I’m my own boss.’’

Ivy: “My little sister is a trouble-maker, she always does something to make me be creazy.’’

Ann: “I like wild animal. But I hate snake. They are sick and scaried.’’

Agnes: “I’m fond of watching movies, such as the Bat Man. … And one of my favorite characters is the Joker.  … Unfortunately, he (the actor) was dead before the movie been showed on the screen. What a pity! God bless him.’’

Max: “My favorite movie star is Johnny Deep. I love his style … some people think it’s weird, but I think we are who we are.’’

Kiki: “My dream country is Denmark. I have seen the news and many photos that Denmark is the happiest country in the world.’’

Selina: “I want to make friends with you. Do you mind to be my friend? I think your answer will be “of course not.’’

Belinda: “You are so tall and friendly. We all love you very much and we all have confidence in you and ourselves to learn this class well.’’

Jennifer: “I hope you can propagate the doctrine, impart professional knowledge and resolve doubts.’’
